City of Birmingham Rockets Basketball Club has been fortunate to be involved with Birmingham City University’s graduate accelerate internship programme.

From the beginning of February we welcomed two interns (pictured), a marketing intern – Rochelle Robinson-Reid (Left) and a finance and business intern – Meena Begum (Right). They have both graduated from Birmingham City University (BCU) within the last year.

The internships have taken place over 12 weeks and have been a huge benefit to the club. During this period the interns have worked closely with Managing Director Rob Palmer and have tried to introduce new strategies and changes to the club. Some key areas within the club have been managed by the interns, such as: Administration, data protection and welfare regulations, updating systems, designing and updating the COB Rockets website, digital marketing and social media and helping out with our camps.

This internship programme has benefitted the recent graduates from BCU as well as the companies and organisations that take on the interns. One of our interns has said “Working for City of Birmingham Basketball Club has allowed me to gain real experience in my chosen career field and I have enjoyed the creative freedom I’ve had whilst working with the club.” – Rochelle Robinson-Reid. Meena Begum also commented saying: “We work in a very relaxed and friendly environment. In 3 months we have learnt a lot about the club and the sport of basketball. We have¬†seen that our work during our internship has made an impact as well as giving us useful work experience after finishing university.”

On Thursday 22nd March, we attended a breakfast morning to see the progress of the internship programme run by BCU. The breakfast morning showcased many success stories for some interns and gave the opportunity for networking. Our interns have been very valuable and continuously keep enthusiastic about helping the club.
