LATEST CLUB OPPORTUNITY:
Part Time Community Basketball Coach x 2 12 hours per week (2 Year Contracts)
City of Birmingham Rockets Basketball Club are recruiting 2 part time community basketball coaches on 2 year contracts to support delivery of a HS2 Funded Project. We are seeking 2 enthusiastic, reliable and ambitious coaches to support the community development of the club and its coaching programmes. The coaches would be responsible for the planning and development of community sessions, working with local youth providers, primary and secondary schools.
We have some wonderful opportunities for volunteers to help grow our club and give the best experience to our players and members. We are extremely proud of our club, here at COB Rockets and we want to ensure a sustainable legacy and inspire generations of players to come.
By volunteering for City of Birmingham Rockets Basketball you will help the club to progress and also gain yourself valuable personal experience to take forward either within the club, the sport generally, in education or in your career path. These opportunities provide mutual benefits for both you as a volunteer and for our basketball club.
The volunteer roles we are able to offer cover a variety of opportunities and differ in the time commitment and skill set required.
The club offices are based on Pershore Road in Selly Park. We have the opportunity for a suitable person to help us in an administrative role. This would include answering the telephone, data inputting and general office duties to ensure that the organisation continues to operate in an effective manner. This person would also get involved in some of our event delivery such as Birmingham School Games and our range of holiday camps.
We have many volunteer coaches and we are always looking to expand our already great coaching team. Not only do we have coaches within our club but we have coaches that support us with schools coaching and different community programmes that we have running.
Some of our team coaching commitments involve 2 evenings a week of coaching plus coaching on team game days whilst working within the values of the club organisation and towards the club goals. The club holds an extensive junior programme containing 12 teams and 2 senior teams.
Being a volunteer coach is an exciting opportunity for any experienced or aspiring coach and will help us continue the growth of the organisation. Within the club we can possibly help you take your current qualification further and offer mentoring support in your coach development path.
Interested parties should be committed to CPD and ideally hold a minimum Level 1 Coaching Qualification. Please forward your CV to firstname.lastname@example.org
We strive to provide professional support and expertise to our players. Our senior team compete in Basketball England National League competitions. We have opportunities for sports therapists to work with our players including injury treatment, injury prevention and massage therapy. This is a great opportunity for any therapists who are currently in training and require real life experience.
Other volunteering opportunities we have within COB
Game Day Managers – We often need a small team to greet guests and opposing teams and to make sure we stick to schedule, particularly with half time entertainment. This role involves a lot of communication with the rest of the match day team.
If you’re interested in events management and are good at organising, then please forward your CV.
Team Managers – We need people to help with the running of our teams. This person helps us get organised by confirming fixtures, taking registers and making sure our players and coaches are always in communication. We want to create a smooth running for game days. You will be the first point of call for many of the players and can give them updates and information on events we have running within the club. This is a big role but an important one and will enhance any CV.
Statisticians – We require volunteers to collect match statistics for us. These are extremely useful tools for our coaches to utilise. There are some great apps available to aid this role. If you are doing any maths or statistics projects or course work, then this is a good volunteering role and shows real life sporting information which is also very valuable to our team.
Mini Bus Drivers – If you have a valid license that will allow you to drive a mini bus then we need you! We have many away games across the country and we would like to transport all of our team together. If you are interested in this role but are currently unable to drive a mini bus, we will ensure any willing and suitable volunteers gain the MIDAS training certificate to enable you to do so.
Photographer and Videographers – We are looking for action shots, team and player photographs and footage of our games and training to put utilise on social media & our website. We run many club events and capturing these moments on film enables us to reach a wider audience. This could be part of a project or course of study, to add to your portfolio or to gain more experience in your field. If you don’t have access to suitable equipment it may be possible for us to provide some.
Reporter – This would primarily be for our senior team matches. Reports would need to be of publishing standard and submitted very soon after the completion of games to be published in the week in the Birmingham Mail. These reports would also be published in our monthly newsletters, social media and the club website. This is a great opportunity for aspiring journalists.
Filling some of these roles will really help us to promote the club. For more information or to join us as a volunteer please contact CoBOpportunities@hotmail.com or send us a message on our facebook page www.facebook.com/cobrocketsbball
