A threadbare COB team travelled north to win 71-57 against Sheffield Sabres in the steel city on the back of 33 points from point guard Zak Powell.

After a quick start COB were hauled back but still led 16-10 at the end of a first quarter in which Powell registered 10 points with the Sabres unable to contain COB’s young guards.

The home side worked the ball inside during the 2nd period where captain Murray protected the COB key defensively as Powell added another 10 during the quarter. The half finished with COB leading 33-30 and the home side gaining momentum.

Despite this it was COB who came out hot in the 3rd stanza. Once again Powell thrilled with his ability to drive, create and shoot, but it was defensive energy from Trout, Shadboult and London that kept the bone side to only 9 points during the period and give COB a 45-39 lead entering the final quarter.

Again COB came out strong. Catlow worked hard with Murray on the boards at both ends of the floor whilst David Rice stepped up to drain 2 huge 3 point shots with 4 minutes remaining. A follow up 3 from Dwight London was the finishing blow for the Sabres. Despite a late rally, COB regrouped and took the 71-57 result back down the M1.

A great effort from the team and a first league win of the season at the third attempt will give the squad plenty of confidence moving forward!
