The 3rd Hakeem Olajuwon Basketball Summer Camp from Monday 30th July – Friday 3rd August 2018
Following the amazing success of our first two summer camps with Hakeem Olajuwon, we are now delighted to confirm that the 2018 camp will go ahead from Monday 30th July until Friday 3rd August.
The camp will again be supported by NBA Legend and City of Birmingham Rockets Club Director Hakeem ‘The Dream’ Olajuwon and will be directed by the experienced, legendary coach, Peter Mintoft. Some outstanding overseas coaches will be working alongside an array of the best and most experienced development coaches from the club and around the UK chosen by Hakeem.
We are pleased to announce the confirmed return of Houston based Elevation Skills coach Donte Mathis. Donte delivers his energetic and passionate workouts with us for the third summer following another successful year in developing young players in and around Texas. To secure his services in Birmingham this year is a huge boost for our 2018 campers!
In addition we are also able to confirm the return of two extremely talented British coaches to the 2018 camp. Lee Mccarthy, Academy Head Coach and Director from Buck Hornets and Danny Magee, Assistant Coach from BBL Club, Worcester Wolves, will be on camp duties once again and are both extremely excited for the 2018 camp! There will be further coaching announcements over the next few weeks as we finalise our staffing but rest assured there will be high quality coaching staff appointed to help each camper develop their potential as much as possible!
Residential campers will be accommodated in the nearby Aston University Halls of Residence where the excellent facilities include en suite rooms for every camper and shared kitchen/breakfast rooms within each flat. Each morning residential campers will take breakfast at the halls before making the short journey to our playing facilities where they will take part in full days of basketball activity led by our skilled and experience camp coaching staff.
Non-residential campers will arrive at the playing venue for a 9am start on each day. Our strength and conditioning coaches led by Ste Foster from Kratos Strength and Conditioning will deliver our warm ups to ensure campers are ready for each day’s activities before our coaching staff commence the day’s basketball activity.
All campers will receive two full nutritious meals during each day of camp at lunch time and in the evening along with a plentiful supply of fruit, snacks and water available during the day to ensure hydration.
Each day will consist of intense basketball skill development practices designed to provide maximum enjoyment for participants whilst ensuring each skill sets is taught in fine detail.
These skill stations will be delivered by our experienced and knowledgeable coaching staff. During the week we will be joined by our partners from Birmingham City University, who will provide some elite level Sports Performance workshops to ensure campers learn how to maximise and understand the benefit of sports nutrition, sports psychology and the benefits of fitness testing.
However, we also fully understand that many parents will have questions and concerns relating to their child/children being away from home (Some for the first time). We are proud of the high level of welfare support that our off court camp staff provide. We appoint chaperones to support the needs of every residential camper, whilst our camp counsellors ensure that any issues raised during the day are dealt with fairly and promptly. We believe this support service ensures maximum enjoyment for all participants.
This camp will be no doubt once again be an amazing experience for everyone participating. Hakeem and the camp staff are extremely excited and proud to be bringing this camp back to Birmingham again.
The cost of the camp remains the same as in 2017 at £375 for Residential and £275 Non-Residential. This is amazing value for money to attend one of THE outstanding international basketball Summer Camps held in the UK.
