After last Saturday’s opening day loss, the COB senior team hit the road on Sunday to visit Derby Trailblazers for a Division 4 Midlands match up.

In another game steeped in refereeing controversy, COB were dealt a double blow in the lead up to tip off as the team were without the influential leadership, experience and shooting threats of Danny Williams and Marc Lacey. This resulted in a call up for Under 18 Arivelle Trout who joined his junior team mates George Franklin and Harun Saleh in the COB starting line up as Head Coach Herman Wilson showed confidence in the young trio’s ability to deal with the pressure from the outset of the game.
A close first half littered with some strange refereeing decisions puzzled Coach Wilson and frustrated the COB players. However despite this, COB took a 38-36 lead into the break with plenty of optimism for the second half of play.
COB blew the game open in the 3rd quarter with an 18-5 run as Derby had no answer to the speedy Trout, outside
2014-10-04 17.16.14threat of  leading scorer David Malcolm (21 points), and growing confidence of George Franklin (13 points). As Derby became ever desperate to force COB into mistakes, Matt Catlow (16 points) took advantage in the paint as COB ran out 72-53 winners.
Coach Wilson was pleased with the team’s ability to hold off their hosts and record their first win of the season. Liam Sheridan and Cameron Wright again provided intensity to a team which continues to grow with every outing.
Don’t forget the team are back in home action next Saturday 18th October when the highly rated Doncaster Danum visit Nechells for a 5.05pm tip off! Remember to arrive early to claim your seat and entry is once again FREE for this second home game! We can’t wait to see you next week and don’t forget to get behind the team!
Junior Round Up

Week 2 of the junior season saw another very positive weekend with 4 of the 6 games played by COB won. Saturday saw both Under 13s and 15s move to 2&0 records with respective wins in Mansfield and Derby. The Under 13s saw a 20 point lead evaporate in an intense atmosphere at Mansfield Giants before our young team showed great character to pull away to a super 92-83 win against strong opposition. Under 15s were always in control as they visited Derby and recorded a comfortable 95-45 victory which Coach Williams was pleased with. The Under 14 Girls suffered a heavy loss at the highly rated Northants Lightning which should prove a great learning experience for our young team as they move forward.
Sunday started with a super cup win for the Under 16 Girls (right) who travelled to Gloster Jets for their first game of the 2014-10-12 19.21.41season and returned with a 52-37 win. Later in the day the Under 16 Boys team hosted a strong Cheshire Wire team. Despite recovering from a slow start to trail by just 2 points at the half, COB failed to find a way to stop Wire’s outside scoring threat and the second half saw Cheshire pull away to an 87-62 victory as the team got to see the strength of the Under 16 Premier North League.
Next weekend sees 8 more COB games and we all look forward to a great 2 days of action! Thanks again for all of your continued support as we move  onwards and upwards!
