Something for the Weekend?

The COB Senior team travel to Sheffield Sabres on Saturday looking to build on last weekend’s excellent efforts against Derby Trailblazers and Division 3 Birmingham Mets. The team led by captain Ferris Murray showed great character in both games last weekend and will be looking to continue in the same vain in the steel city.

The Under 18 team go across town to Team Birmingham on Sunday in the National Cup 3rd Round. The team have been dogged by injuries so far this season but have shown that with more depth in the team they can more than hold their own. This was evident against the highly rated Leicester Riders last Saturday when the team led for long periods in the first half before going in level at the break. Fatigue hurt the team in the 3rd quarter but there were many positives to take forward.

The Under 16 Premier team visit the North West to take on Manchester Giants on Saturday. Coach Williams will be looking for a first road trip win of the season for the team after recording 3 home wins and 3 away defeats in the opening fixtures of the season.

Meanwhile the Under 16 Conference squad are improving with every game and on Saturday visit Worcester Wolves with Coach Francis hoping to build on last week’s valiant effort at home to Shropshire Warriors. This team comprises of Under 15 players playing a year up and the progress has been excellent to see so far.

We have back to back home games for our Under 14 squads on Saturday. The Conference team take on Northants Thunder at 12.20. Again this squad is made up of players generally 2 or 3 years younger than our opponents. The progress again has been noticeable as the young players adapt to a bigger court and higher baskets than they have previously been used to. Again we know that the long term benefits will make this experience all the more beneficial for the player’s development.

At 2.20 the Under 14 Premier team host Nottingham Hoods. The team have had an excellent start to the season with a 3&0 record under Coach Lacey who will be continuing to push for more from his players.

In the YBL, the Under 11s start their season taking on Bournville Bears. Our thriving minis programme is the future of the club and we are confident that the outstanding talent we produce at this age group will continue to flourish this season.

Come on down to Nechells on Saturday and get behind your COB teams as we continue to drive some great talented basketball players forward in Birmingham!
