City of Birmingham Basketball have recently announced the Club’s partnership with Hakeem ‘The Dream’ Olajuwon, an NBA and Olympic champion, Hall of Fame inductee, MVP, and widely considered the best forward in basketball history. The inaugural Hakeem Olajuwon’s ‘City of Birmingham National Basketball Summer Camp in July, will be followed by a basketball academy starting in September and an ongoing partnership.
Collectively, this will result in considerable exposure for the club nationally, in Europe, and through Hakeem, in the US via his work with Houston Rockets.
At this exciting time for basketball in the city, and nationally, the club is inviting the tender of partnership proposals at all levels, across the club’s ongoing operations (matchdays, teams, equipment and apparel), the summer camp and the academy.
We also plan to enhance our arena to take advantage matchday and of secondary income to reinvest in further basketball development in the region. This will underpin the strong coaching team that is vital to continue the club’s success in participation and performance at all levels.
Our priority is to find suitable partners who share our vision to bring long term benefits to the sport in the region, and to the partners themselves. The club is receiving unprecedented levels of membership queries, regular exposure in local media, and have a considerable local following.

About City of Birmingham Basketball Club
Following the huge success and popularity of basketball in Birmingham in the 1980s and 90’s, City of Birmingham (CoB) Basketball Club was established in 2003 by sports development specialist Rob Palmer, and former West Midlands Detective Constable, and Queens Police Medal recipient, Kirk Dawes. Co-ordinating basketball from it’s home in Nechells, with a now firmly established set of principles, club alumni have gone on to achieve success nationally and internationally.
Our 14 squads, mostly in National League include consistently high achieving teams at the premier level, including the men’s team which has reached the end of season play-offs in each of it’s campaigns. The majority of players have acquired their fundamental skills at our thriving weekend Development sessions, which are growing at a faster rate than at any point in the history of the club.
Whilst these operations alone make CoB one of the UK’s largest basketball organisations, we also deliver:
– weekly Premier League 4 Sport sessions and it’s associated Central Venues League;
– nearly 40 age, gender and school based, and Sport England supported community sessions, and numerous new offerings, development and initiatives constantly in the pipeline;
-involvement in tournaments, cup competitions, Junior NBA, Sainsbury’s School Games, and tournaments in locations throughout Europe.
We are proud to be entrusted with providing opportunities to over 700 young people each week thanks to our enviable voluntary workforce, plus 20 qualified coaches including 4 at Level 3 (the highest EB level).
