On 13th and 14th February, City of Birmingham Rockets Basketball Club hosted 2 fun-filled days of basketball for primary and secondary school students as part of the delivery of the Birmingham’s school games finals.
For the secondary schools game finals at Nechells Wellbeing Centre we hosted 17 schools who each competed for the title of Level 3 school games winners 2018. The schools that were involved in this tournament were:
King Edwards Camp Hill, Shenley, Yardley, Cardinal Wiseman, Ninestiles, Bartley Green, Jewellery Quarter, Kings Heath Boys, Fairfax, Bishop Challoner, King Edwards Handsworth, Kings Norton Girls, Starbank, St Pauls, Great Barr, Four Dwellings and KESH.
There were some extremely talented players and very good school teams on display during this event. Several games were keenly contested and could’ve been won by either school taking part however, the teams that did progress into the finals were well worthy of their achievements.
Girls Tournament: 1st Place: KE Handsworth | 2nd Place: Kings Norton Girls
Boys Tournament: 1st Place: Fairfax | 2nd Place: Kings Heath Boys
For the primary schools event Rockets organised the basketball games at the Futsal Arena in Lozells. The schools attending were:
St Martin De Porres, Harper Bell, West Heath, Chilwell, Greet, Kings Norton Primary, Westminster, Timberley, Harborne, Hillstone, New Hall and Hollywood.
In a extremely closely contested tournament, the winning team and primary school games champions for 2018 were Kings Norton Primary school.
We hope all our participants had fun and enjoyed competing in the basketball games. You can find out more about the school games at https://www.sportbirmingham.org/school-games
