U14 COB V Coventry Tornadoes – 11/04/2015

Earlier in the season we took the short trip to Coventry with a very small squad, but despite a lot of effort we lacked the experience to break down a well drilled team that played several types of zone and man to man defences. We went down fighting, with our heads held high following a 42 point defeat.

Move forward 3 months and we hosted Coventry in the return. This time we had a full bench as our squad had been increased by several new additions in the last 2 months. The team spirit was high following back to back wins, the latest a 6 point win against Yardley who had also beaten us by 40 points at their court. So, we were not phased by the previous result at Coventry.

We had a bright start, pressing high up the court and causing Coventry a lot of problems, but despite the quick start, we again failed to score from all the turnovers. Coventry on the other hand seemed to finish the few offences they had to end the first period 4-16. The second period was a repeat of the first but we score a few more and kept it close at half time. 13-26.

The first minute of the second half gave our team hope as Hari Ram let loose and scored 3 quick baskets, and he could have score 6. Coventry were rattled. Following a Coventry time out, they switched to a zone press that took the steam out of our game and the momentum was gone. We lost our defensive intensity, failed to make good passes and struggled to score. Coventry hit 40 points in the second half that made the final result not reflect the good work we had done. Well played team. You gave a strong team a lot to think about.
