On Monday 16th April, the Year 5 children of Great Barr Primary school were introduced to Wheelchair basketball. The event was put on by City of Birmingham Rockets Wheelchair Basketball Head Coach Andy Craddock.

This event gave COB’s Wheelchair team a chance to inspire young people to play basketball and be involved regardless of disability.

The Year 5’s got a chance to learn new skills and try out a sport in a different way to what they might be used to and they seemed to have great fun. They also got to meet Charlotte Moore who played basketball for Team GB in the Paralympics in Rio 2016. It was a great opportunity for the children to meet Charlotte and she gave them lots of tips and general advice on the sport of basketball.

The day also involved a visit from Safique Shah, the Deputy Lord Mayor of Birmingham. We are glad to have been a part of this event and in giving these young children the opportunity to meet inspiring people and have fun.

Thank you Andy Craddock for bringing wheelchair basketball into new communities and into new people’s lives.
